SB-Sujon:
45 people, including central BNP Rangpur divisional organizing secretary Asadul Habib Dulu, have been acquitted after almost 11 years in a case filed on charges of damaging the paved road by burying poles in the road at Shimultala, Barabari, Lalmonirhat on the Rangpur-Kurigram highway during the BNP-Jamaat blockade.
On Monday (May 12) afternoon, Lalmonirhat District and Sessions Judge Adib Ali acquitted all the accused in the case. The incident had taken place on January 6, 2015.
The case details reveal that during the blockade called by BNP, BNP leaders and activists used axes, sables, spades and rakes to dig up the road and build barricades on the Rangpur-Kurigram highway at the Shimultala intersection of Barabari Union in Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila. During this time, they removed the asphalt and cut the soil on both sides of the paved road, causing damage to the road and damaging government property. Women leaders and activists were used as shields during the blockade. The police filed a case under Section 15 (3) of the Special Powers Act of 1974 as the plaintiff. The case named 45 leaders and activists, including Rangpur Divisional Organizing Secretary of the central BNP and Lalmonirhat District BNP President Principal Asadul Habib Dulu, and 500/550 unidentified people as accused.
After being acquitted, BNP central leader Dulu said that it was a false and fake case.  The government had planned to harass us by filing all these cases to disrupt our democratic movement. Today we have received justice from the court. No fascist government can stop the democratic movement by filing cases. Today is the proof of that.
Government PP KM Humayun Reza Swapan said that the court had argued in favor of acquitting all the accused by claiming that the case was harassment under Section 494 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The court was satisfied with this and acquitted all the accused.
