Police have arrested three people, including two Jubo League and Krishak League members, in a case filed on charges of attacking the anti-discrimination student movement in Goalanda, Rajbari.

They were arrested in a raid conducted in different places in the upazila on Wednesday (April 30) night.

Arrested are Md. Ziaur Rahman (45), assistant general secretary of Goalanda Upazila Awami Jubo League and son of Abdus Samad Sheikh of Nuru Mandal Para village of Daulatdia UP. Md. Sonai Mia (50), general secretary of Ujanchar UP Krishak League of the upazila and son of the deceased Danesh Sheikh of Gafur Matubbar Para village, and Md. Samaser Ali (36), an active member of the Upazila Jubo League and son of Adu Sheikh of Chaher Mandal Para village of Ujanchar UP. Among them, Sonai Mia and Samser Ali are members of the Ujanchar Union Parishad of the upazila.

It is known that on August 4, leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations attacked the students of the anti-discrimination student movement in the Goalanda Railgate area with various weapons, including firing bullets. Several leaders and activists of the anti-discrimination student movement were injured during this incident.

In this incident, on December 10, Shariful Islam, son of Md. Shahjahan of Devgram area of ​​​​Goalanda upazila and a student of Rajbari Technical School and College, filed a case with the Goalanda Ghat police station against 59 people, including 300/400 unknown people. They were arrested as suspects in the case. The arrested accused were sent to the Rajbari court on Thursday afternoon.
