The Laksam Municipality authorities have issued a show-cause notice to the late Abdul Latif, father of the Awami League nominated chairman (fugitive) Nazrul Islam of Ajgra Union Parishad No. 7 in Laksam Upazila, on the allegation of illegally taking water connection to the residential building of “Morhum Haji Abdul Latif Majumder House” located on Chauddagram Road of the Bypass.
It is learned that on March 10, Laksam Municipality Administrator Md. Kausar Hamid issued a notice to the illegal connection takers after receiving information that two linemen of the water branch of Laksam Municipality had taken water connection illegally to the building.
The notice states that Laksam illegally constructed two 1.5-inch diameter connection lines from the municipal water supply line without the approval of the municipal authority, which is a violation of the Local Government (Municipality) Act 2009 and the Municipal Water Supply Management Guidelines 2023. As a result, the undersigned is asked to provide a written reply to the undersigned within the next 5 working days as to why legal action will not be taken against you, including disconnecting the 6 illegal connections.
In view of the notice of the municipality, (absconding) Nazrul Chairman’s brother Zahirul Islam (customer no. 1439,1440) wrote to the municipal authority, apologizing that he was not aware of their illegal connections and requesting them to legalize the illegal connections.
In view of that application, the Laksam municipal authority issued them a notice again on April 23 and ordered them to disconnect the illegal connections within 7 working days and inform the municipal authority.
After the order, Zahirul Islam apologized to the Laksam municipality authorities on April 29 by disconnecting the connection.
Sources said that Laksam municipality has six 1-inch water connections in Latif Hazir Bhaban. Outside these six connections, they have given two illegal connections of 1.5 inches from the 4-inch main line. When the municipal authorities received the news of this illegal connection, they disconnected the connection and apologized to the municipal authorities. In this regard, Zahirul Islam, the brother of the former (fugitive) chairman of Azgra Union Parishad, claimed that there was no illegal connection. The line was built by a senatorial mechanic. He also said in a tone of silence, do you know Jubo Dal leader Abul Bashar? If necessary, talk to him about this!
Assistant Engineer of the Water and Sewerage Department of Laksham Municipality, Pavitra Bhushan Pal, said that when the municipality’s linemen inspected the land and reported illegal connections, the municipal authorities gave them a show-cause notice.
