7 sacks of government rice were recovered from Gobindapur Union on Wednesday (April 23) at 9:30 pm after receiving a call on 999 in Laksam, Comilla.
Upazila Executive Officer Kausar Hamid recovered 350 kg of rice from the house of Rabiul Hossain Rabu, a food-friendly dealer in Mohammadpur Bazar.
Rabiul Hossain Rabu (42) is the son of the deceased Safi Ullah of Gobindapur Paschimpara.
Local residents Rashedul Islam, joint convener of Upazila Chhatra Dal, and Abul Kalam, general secretary of Gobindapur South Union BNP, and several people said that Rabiul Hossain Rabu left the rice in the house of an aunt with whom he had a bad relationship in the same neighborhood in the evening. On learning about the matter, people in the area called 999. At that time, the locals detained rickshaw driver Safiqur Rahman. Later, the UNO went to the spot and called the dealer Rabiul. During interrogation, Rabiul admitted that he brought the rice home illegally for the purpose of embezzlement instead of distributing it.
Rashedul Islam, joint convener of the Upazila Chhatra Dal, a resident of the same village, and Abul Kalam, general secretary of Gobindapur South Union BNP, said, “There is no place for miscreants, thieves, or embezzlers in our party. We have informed the leaders about the incident. Senior leaders will take organizational action against him.”
Laksam Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kausar Hamid said, during interrogation, dealer Rabiul Hossain admitted that he brought the rice home for the purpose of embezzlement instead of distributing it. Later, he was given a six-month prison sentence in a mobile court. His dealer license will be canceled.
