The upazila administration has seized 50,000 meters of illegal current nets in a joint operation in the coastal area of ​​Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. The market value of the current nets is Tk 3 lakh. According to the Fisheries Department, fishing activities by all types of fishing vessels in the sea will be prohibited for a total of 58 days from April 15 to June 11 for the proper reproduction, production of marine fish and conservation of marine fish resources and sustainable fishing.
On this occasion, on Sunday, on the instructions of the District Fisheries Officer and in consultation with the President of the Upazila Task Force Committee and under the management of the Upazila Fisheries Department, a joint operation was conducted in various fishing piers in the coastal area of ​​Teknaf Upazila from 10 am to 6 pm, and about 50,000 meters of current nets were seized and the nets were burned and destroyed.
This information was confirmed by Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Mohammad Delwar Hossain. Sabrang Coast Guard Contingent Commander Mohammad Mujibul Haque, Teknaf Coast Guard Contingent Commander Shaha Alam and Naval Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Nurul Islam were present in the operation. Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Mohammad Delwar Hossain said that fishermen have been instructed to refrain from fishing in the coastal areas of the sea in compliance with the government ban, otherwise legal action will be taken. There is a provision of jail fine for those who violate these rules and restrictions.
