More than 49 lakh people have been affected so far in eleven districts due to ongoing floods in the country. Besides, 18 people have died so far.

Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief said this information in a press conference on Saturday (August 24) about the ongoing flood situation in the Secretariat. Kamrul Hasan. He also said that the flood situation is improving.

The relief secretary said that till now there are 11 flood affected districts. The total number of affected people in 11 districts is 49 lakh 38 thousand 159 people. Affected families are 9 lakh 44 thousand 548.

The disaster secretary said that 18 people have died in the floods so far, out of which 4 people have died in Comilla, one in Feni, 5 in Chittagong, 3 in Noakhali, one in Brahmanbaria, one in Laxmipur and three in Cox’s Bazar.

Kamrul Hasan also said that 3 thousand 527 shelters have been opened so far. 2 lakh 84 thousand 888 people have taken shelter in these shelters.

Regarding the relief activities, the secretary said that a total of Tk 3 crore 52 lakh has been allocated in 11 flood affected districts. 20 thousand 150 tons of relief rice has been allocated. Besides, 15 thousand pieces of dry and other food packets have been allocated. 35 lakhs have been allotted for purchase of baby food and 35 lakhs for purchase of cow feed.

Stating that the flood situation will improve in the next 24 hours, the secretary said, according to the information of the meteorological agencies, there is no sign of heavy rainfall in the north-eastern region of the country and the adjacent upstream in the next 24 hours. At this time, the flood situation is likely to improve in the areas adjacent to Manu, Khoai and Dhalai rivers in Moulvibazar and Habiganj districts.

He said, at the same time, in the next 24 hours, there is no sign of heavy rainfall in the south-eastern part of the country and the adjacent upstream. At this time, the flood situation is expected to improve in the areas adjacent to Muhuri, Feni, Gomti and Halda rivers in Feni, Comilla and Chittagong districts of this region.

Kamrul Hasan said, 70 medical teams are in operation to provide medical services in the affected districts. A field hospital has been set up to provide health care in Feni. Doctors from army and district civil surgeon office are serving there.

Stating that all the districts of the country have enough relief supplies, the secretary said that the district commissioners of the flood-affected districts have been given necessary instructions to work together with the anti-discrimination student movement coordinator, army, navy, medical team and other volunteers.

A round-the-clock control room has been opened in the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. 02-55101115 is open for information and assistance. The disaster management secretary also said that the army, navy, coast guard, fire service and civil defense, student society and BGB are engaged in rescue work in flood affected areas of Feni, Noakhali, Chittagong, Brahmanbaria, Comilla, Habiganj and Laxmipur districts.

He also said that the advisor of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has visited the flood affected area on the spot to monitor the flood situation. The advisor is currently based in Feni.

The Secretary also informed that a V-SAT has been launched at the Feni Deputy Commissioner’s office and communication has been established through it.

He said, we have pre-preparedness so that human or cattle diseases cannot spread after flood. In this regard, the Ministry of Health has been told that they are preparing.
