28 kg cuttlefish caught in Goalanda’s Padma

A huge cuttlefish weighing 28 kg has been caught in a fisherman’s net in the Padma River in Daulatdia, Goalanda Upazila of Rajbari.
The fish was caught in the net of fisherman Jamal Pramanik at the estuary of the Padma River in Daulatdia, Goalanda Upazila, on Saturday morning, May 3. The fish was later sold at an open auction at the Daulatdia Fish Market for Tk 50,400.
Fisherman Jamal Pramanik went fishing in the Padma River with his companions in the early morning. At that time, his net felt a strong jolt. Then they realized that a big fish had been caught. Later, they all pulled the net together and saw that a huge cuttlefish was caught. Then they brought the fish to the fish shop at Ferry Ghat No. 5 in Daulatdia to sell it.
Chandu Molla, owner of Chandni & Arifa Fish Shop, said that in the morning, Jamal Pramanik brought a fresh cuttlefish weighing 28 kg to Momin Mandal’s shop for sale. At that time, the fish was bought for 50,400 taka at an open auction at a price of 1,800 taka per kg. Now, big traders will be contacted on mobile to sell the fish. We will release it with a profit of 100 taka per kg.
Rajbari District Fisheries Officer Md. Nazmul Huda said, “There is less water in the Padma now. That is why fishermen are constantly catching large fish in their nets. They are making a profit by selling the fish.”
