 A clash between the two sides of Awami League took place in Kaunia, Rangpur, on the occasion of Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi’s slogan exchange meeting on the occasion of Eid. A person named Sona Mia (55) was killed in this. At least 10 people were injured on both sides. They have been admitted to Upazila Health Complex and Haragach Health Complex. The murder took place in front of Imamganj School and College ground of Khansamarhat of the upazila at around 8 o’clock on Monday night. Earlier in the afternoon in the same field, an argument and a fight took place due to sloganeering at the minister’s exchange meeting. Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi left the scene without holding an exchange meeting. Police arrested one person in this incident. The deceased Sona Mia is the son of Abdul Khalek of Najidah Nayatari area of Haragach. According to party sources, he is a follower of Kaunia Upazila Awami League President and Upazila Chairman Anwarul Islam Maya. Rangpur District Police Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Sultana Razia said on Tuesday morning that the situation is calm at the moment. Additional police are deployed. Apart from this, the preparation of the case is going on. The body has been sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem. One person has already been arrested. According to local and police sources, an altercation and scuffle took place between two groups of Awami League yesterday afternoon at the Imamganj School and College ground of Kaunia Upazila on the arrival of Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi. Then the police went and brought the situation under control. In the situation that arose, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi left the scene without holding a meeting. After the minister left, a clash broke out in front of the Khansama Hat Imamganj School and College ground between the two sides around eight o’clock in the night due to this incident. At one stage, Sona Mia died on the spot after being hit by a stick. Rangpur Superintendent of Police Ferdous Ali Chowdhury visited the scene immediately after the incident. Police said that additional police have been deployed in the area in this incident. Police arrested one person in this incident. His name is Mozammel Haque (65). District Awami League joint convener Majed Ali confirmed that he is the former president of Haragach Union Awami League of Kaunia Upazila.
