DB police arrested a drug dealer named Ranu Shafi (56) along with 20 kg of dry ganja in Joypurhat District Intelligence Branch DB. He was arrested from Adarshpara in the city on Wednesday (February 15) night. On Thursday (February 16) morning, the arrested drug dealer was sent to the Jaipurhat Court after filing a case under the Narcotics Control Act. The arrested Ranu Shafi is the son of deceased Matiar Rahman of Shantinagar area of the city. It is said that he deals in fish in the bazaar of the city. Fugitive drug dealer Zakirul Islam is the son of Jamal Uddin of Adarshpara. Shahed Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Jaipurhat district intelligence branch, said that based on secret information, drug dealers Ranu Shafi and Zakirul Islam are staying inside the cow house at the south door of a residential house in Adarshpara to sell to wholesale and retail drug dealers in the area. When the accused Ranu Shafi was caught red-handed when he tried to escape after realizing the presence of the police, the other accused Zakirul Islam escaped. According to the evidence of the accused, 20 (twenty) kg of dry ganja was recovered from inside the cowshed on the south side of the residence of the accused Zakirul Islam. A case has been filed against them under the Narcotics Act. The officer-in-charge of the district intelligence branch also said that the operation of DB police will continue to keep Jaipurhat district drug-free.
